What mode of vehicle allows you to park in small spaces, spend almost nothing on fuel, travel without getting out of breath, and produce few emissions? I am regularly doing shows about the joys of cycling whether it be by bicycle or electric bike. It’s time for me to open my eyes to the world of electric scooters. They are compact, cheap to run, emit no local air pollution – and in New Zealand they are run primarily on renewable energy.
I’m Maureen Howard, and host of the Dunedin radio show Eco Living in Action that is aired on Otago Access Radio 105.4FM. I’m usually based in Dunedin but I recorded this show while I was travelling on my flight-free adventure, coming to Peterborough in Ontario in Canada by freighter ship and bus.
On the 31st May I spoke with Angella Windram from Green Street E-Bikes in Peterborough in Ontario about electric scooters in Ontario, how they differ from our New Zealand scooters, and how cycling generally is going from strength to strength in the Peterborough area. I find out that Green Street E-Bikes is a family run business with sustainabilty at its heart.
